Lüszi, the lovely irish setter bears calmly to get her mouth tied with a
ribbon and another one on her tail. Though previously she was already
drawn around and a scarf was put below, above and next to her and also
had to squat in a circle. This dog is from a world famous kennel and
also owes a Hungarian Champion title.
This time the star of dog therapy is Lüszi. Lot of studies exist about
the utility of this kind of therapy and life proved: the everydays of
the sick, the oldie, the ones struggling with agony, having problems in
school or mentally retarded can be made nicer and easier with a dog,
which also can help in developing their capabilities.
According to Lívia Bognár therapeutist dog therapy helps in developing
communication and movement skills, futhermore in learning the directions
and colours. Lüszi doesn’t express her opinion, handles everyone equally
and gives absolute love to everyone, at the same time calm and
emphatetic – lot of things supporting her. She obeyes also for hand
movements so this method can be adopted successfully also by less
communicative children. The kids are more open and motivated thank to
animals. Therapy dogs should comply with a lot of requirements –
regarding health and character – as well as the therapeutist.
As we got to know from Lívia, they already have results. Children have
got to like Lüszi in a short period, even those ones who were averse
from her at the beginning. Other colleagues also admit the efficiency of
this method and in case of need for continuing, another dog can be the
part of the group.
